Hey Reader! Ever heard the advice that homeschooling during the holiday season is just too chaotic and you should take a full break until January? Well, my belief is that this is… 🥁 drumroll please 🥁 FALSE!!And why do I believe this, even though others may think otherwise? It’s because homeschooling during the holidays can actually be one of the most magical, memorable, and meaningful times of the year. It’s not about keeping a strict schedule—it’s about leaning into the season and letting it enrich your learning.
Think about this:You could spend December crafting homemade gifts (hello, practical life skills), baking and measuring ingredients (math anyone?), learning about holiday traditions around the world (cultural studies, check!), and volunteering as a family (building character and community awareness). In fact, one of my favorite things to do is create a holiday-themed learning plan that incorporates relaxed, hands-on activities. One of our favorites to do around this time of year is exploring the history of holidays, learning the science behind snow, and counting down with a book-a-day advent calendar. It makes the season feel purposeful without the stress. So if YOU are on the fence about taking a homeschooling break versus diving into a holiday-themed learning plan… Here’s my reminder: Don’t let the chaos of the holidays scare you away from meaningful homeschooling moments. Lean into the joy of the season and make it part of the learning experience. Have you ever wondered how to keep homeschooling fun and light during this time of year? Or do you still feel stuck? Hit reply and let me know—I’d love to help you find your groove! xo, PS: It's still not too late to grab the gratitude-themed spelling word work! It's currently on sale from

Hi, I’m Richie – homeschool single mama of 3! Yes, I homeschool… on purpose. I blog, I bribe my kids with snacks, and I’m a proud member of the “coffee first, questions later” club, powered by sarcasm and Jesus. If homeschooling feels a little wild, you’re in the right place. I serve up no-fluff tips, real-life resources, and the occasional eye roll at unrealistic Pinterest expectations. If you’ve ever lesson-planned at midnight with goldfish crumbs in your bed, you’re in good company. It’s my hope that you find delight in my words, treasures within my posts, and camaraderie in #momlife. Hey Reader! Whew, these last few weeks at the Richie household have been a whole saga. Like, if Netflix filmed us, we’d at least get 3 seasons and a bonus Christmas special. I'm sure you can relate. I'm nearly finished with Attack on Titan (an anime), and even Daniel and Zoey (my 14 yo son and 13 yo daughter, respectivel) haven't seen it yet. My daughter thinks it's so cool that I'm the only adult / parent she knows who likes anime. Honestly? I'm just reclaiming my youth in 20-minute episodes...
Hey Reader! My youngest marches into the kitchen as if he just discovered gravity and proudly declares, "Amo means I love." I slow blink. This is the same child who once tried to spell ‘cat’ with a Q. So yes, I paused mid-coffee and stared, because clearly something magical (or suspicious) was happening. That moment confirmed what I had recently read: Latin is actually one of the best foreign languages to start with, thanks to how closely it connects with English. I’m kind of floored about...
Hey Reader! Earth Day is coming up, and I’ve been reflecting on the beauty of our planet and the profound ways that we have put it at risk. For us, our children, and our children's children. Do you ever think about the Earth and what it'll be like in, say, 50 years from now? 100 years from now? Ever seen that movie Idiocracy? 😂 Well, if I'm not sure of anything else, I'm fairly certain we won't be opposed to drinking water... Earth Day is more than another date on the calendar. It’s a call to...
